Guide to getting started on Brawl Stars

Are you new to Brawl Stars and looking for all the tips you need to know to get the most out of the game and its features? In this Brawl Stars guide to getting started, you'll find all the starting points you need to know so you can soon compete in the game's professional championships (well, why not?)! 😄
Brawl Stars is a free-to-play mobile action game developed by Supercell (already authors of the no less well-known Clash of Clans and Clash Royale).
The basics are very easy to learn, but the game requires strategy and teamwork. From the very first games, there are crucial points to understand in order to optimise your levelling up. We list some of the most important ones in this comprehensive guide to getting started in Brawl Stars in 2020. Enjoy your reading!

What is Brawl Stars?

To begin with, you can find Brawl Stars on your favourite platform: Android or iOS.
What is the goal? Well, the game offers you to face opponents in arenas of 4 to 10 players depending on the game mode.

Brawl Stars has developed at a rapid pace since its beta release in June 2017. When launching the game for the first time, a tutorial shows you the basics of combat and game controls. However, many specifics regarding rewards, leveling up or even menus, seem to be missing.

Brawl Stars beginner's guide

A lot of information is available on the main screen of the game. The resources to be collected are numerous and do not all have the same uses, nor the same optimisation techniques.

Trophies and their progression

The first essential element to state in this Brawl Stars guide is the trophy progress. Located at the top left of your screen, the trophy progress tracker is one of the most important pieces of data in the game. Each time you win a battle, you collect a certain number of trophies that advance this gauge.

Please note that each Brawler (character in the game) has its own leveling up relative to the number of trophies collected. But the main gauge is the sum of all the trophies obtained.

Advancing your main trophy gauge will eventually allow you to move up the league (the first Bronze I league is at 500 trophies). Indeed, this evolution allows you to unlock new game modes (events), resources or new Brawlers.
Here are some examples:

  • 10 trophies : Nita
  • 60 trophies : Colt
  • 250 trophies : Bull
  • 500 trophies : Jessie
  • 1000 trophies : Brock
  • 2000 trophies : Dynamike
  • 3000 trophies : Bo

Brawl Stars Guide: Brawl passes

About ten Brawlers can be unlocked via your trophy level. But some other fighters can only be accessed via the Brawl Stars loot-boxes (or " Brawl boxes"). You can access these by collecting tokens (which you earn at the end of each fight), then by going to the " Pass Brawl" menu, at the bottom left of the main screen.

Brawl passes

In addition to giving you the opportunity to unlock new Brawlers, these boxes contain all sorts of interesting rewards . For example, parts to upgrade your Brawlers (or to use in the shop), resource multipliers or gems.

Note that there are 3 types of boxes in Brawl Stars:

  • the classic boxes contain rewards
  • large boxes provide the equivalent of three conventional boxes
  • The megaboxes contain the equivalent of ten standard boxes.

The shop and its daily offers

Like any good free-to-play game, Brawl Stars offers a shop where you can exchange your coins and gems for character upgrades or other items. skins.
Brawl Stars has the advantage of offering a very pleasant progression without having to spend a cent. But going to the shop can still be beneficial for all players.

Shop

Indeed, there are good deals every day, even if you don't want to spend your money. By visiting the " daily deals " section of the shop, you will have access to free rewards and more or less interesting offers.
Keeping an eye on the good deals every day is therefore essential to optimise your levelling up.

The different events of Brawl Stars

When you launch Brawl Stars for the first time, you will have access to a tutorial introducing you to the basics of the first game mode: Gem Razzia. Thereafter, you will unlock new events as you progress in trophies. In this Brawl Stars guide, we will not present you all the events, that will be detailed in a future article.

Brawl Stars events

The game modes remain the same, but the maps are updated regularly. Each time they are updated, you will be entitled to a token reward. So don't forget to visit the events page regularly, if only to get your due!

Brawl Stars Guide: Clubs

Like many games in this genre, Brawl Stars features a club system that makes it easy to make friends. So you can stop playing with random players. It is inevitably more complicated to set up team strategies with randoms.
Being part of a club therefore quickly becomes an essential point for any player wishing to get started in Brawl Stars.

Brawl Stars guide, clubs

By going to the clubs menu at the bottom right of the main screen, you have 3 options: search for a particular club, create a new one or join one of the clubs listed by the game.
If you are a beginner and don't have any friends playing the game, we advise you to join one of the clubs offered by the game. They are usually active and the club chat allows you to get in touch with future teammates.

Brawlers and their specificities

At the time of writing this Brawl Stars guide, 41 Brawlers are available in the game. You will quickly understand that they are divided into several categories and that the specificities of each one adapt them to one game mode rather than another. Moreover, you will easily find the Brawler that best suits your way of playing.

All Brawlers can be upgraded to level 10. Each time they level up, they will have their hit points and damage (normal and special attack) increased. Leveling up is done with Power Points (found in the Brawl boxes or bought in the shop... Preferably in bargains!) and coins.

Moreover, level 10 will be specific. To reach it, you will need to find a Star Power in a Brawl box (or in the shop, for 2,000 coins, for the more impatient among you). Upon reaching level 10, your Brawler will then unlock a new, very powerful ability in battle.
Here is a summary of the prices for each level upgrade :

Note that Star Powers are only available if you have at least one level 9 Brawler. Your first objective will therefore be to quickly get your favourite fighter to level 9, in order to maximise your chances of obtaining a Star Power.

There are still a lot of specifics to know about the game, but with this Brawl Stars guide to getting started, you'll have everything you need to get started in the game in the best possible way!
This way you can start to determine your favourite Brawlers and events to strategise on later.

Enjoy the game, everyone! And if you think of any other useful tips for beginners, don't hesitate to tell us in the comments!
