Summoners War: End of the preliminary phases of SWC 2020

Preliminary phases qualifications completed SWC 2020

The race for the title is well underway in this Sumonners War Championship (SWC 2020) and the preliminary phases are now complete. Before thinking about the world final which will bring together the 8 best competitors from around the world and offer $210,000 in cash prize money, there are several mandatory stages.
No straight passes are granted, all players must go through the preliminary qualification phases. No one is safe from surprises and the list of competitors has already shrunk considerably. The Sumonners War Fields have never been so competitive! In the end, there is only one place on the roof of the world. 😉

After our competition guide where you can find the calendar, the format and the rules, we take a look at the qualifications for the preliminary phases of the SWC 2020. They took place online and without any spectators. The entire competition will follow the same route due to the current health situation.

Results of the preliminary phases Europe

8 European players have qualified for the SWC 2020 European Cup. In a double-elimination system where each player had the right to a joker, the French Rosith and Chene managed to win their ticket. Together with Germany, France is the country that sends the most representatives to the next stage. Of course, the counters will be reset to zero and everyone will start on an equal footing.

  • Winner bracket qualifiers: XNIGHTX96 (Germany), Chene (France), Zerpolita (Spain) and Obabo (Sweden).
  • Qualified for the Looser bracket: Ismoo (Germany), Seiishizo (Netherlands), Rosith (France) and Viilipytty (Finland).

2 Frenchmen are still in the running to go to the World Championships.

Rosith got particularly hot. He was already at the world championships last year. After reaching the semi-finals, this year his adventure almost ended early. He lost his first match against Seiishizo and had to pull up the whole loser bracket. By a twist of fate, by pulling up this one, he eliminated two other Frenchmen involved in the competition for good. Sapyn and UN4RM3ED fought well but will have to try again next year.

As for Chene, he made a clear round on his side. Thanks to two narrow 2-1 victories in the winner bracket, he secured a direct qualification for the SWC European Cup 2020. Until then, both players and fans will have to wait. The European Cup does not start until 7 November. The wait will be long, but our French people will have the opportunity to train. In this respect, we will have to be wary of Obabo in particular. For many observers, Swedish is the man to beat. He has a very good ladder ranking and a larger than average fan base. In fact, he is one of the only regular Sumonners War streamers.

Results of the preliminary phases America

  • Winner Bracket: Kenballer (USA) Raigeki (Canada), Heves (Canada), Trokamoo (USA).
  • Looser Bracket: DRMZJOSEPH (Canada), Popopanda (USA), Jmak (Canada) and Tree (USA).

The eight qualifiers for the America's Cup.

The Americas region will be represented by 4 Americans and 4 Canadians. Igores, the only Brazilian representative did not manage to create a surprise. Yet, there was a big one. Reigning world champion Thompsin will not be there to defend his title.
Indeed, he stopped in the preliminary stages and left the field open to players who were a little less well-known. Kenballer is thus the beautiful story of this region. He went from being an almost anonymous player to a player who qualified for the regional cup. It will take place on October 24th and the American will try to continue to write his history.

Results of the preliminary phases Asia

The Asian region is a little peculiar. For these preliminary qualification phases for SWC 2020, the continent is divided into several small sub-regions. The competition is therefore even denser there, each with 8 competitors. This is not necessarily surprising since mobile gaming is very popular in this part of the world.

  • Korea: Charmi and Skit;
  • Japan : Shiki and Tanaka Tsubasa ;
  • SEA and AU: 02Loveo (Thailand) and Xere (Vietnam) ;
  • Taiwan and Hong Kong: Mr.Chung (Hong Kong) and Gaia (Taiwan).

In the SEA-AU catch-all region, many nationalities were represented.

As a reminder, China will also have its representative at the SWC 2020, but it has its own qualifying tournament. This one starts only on October 23rd, so we'll have to wait and find out more about it.

A clever cocktail of mobile gaming,esport and K-PoP. Not tryhard enough to become a pro gamer, I'm passionately content to be the minstrel who tells the tale.
