Test of Rainbow Story Global, a cute new MMORPG

Released a few months ago, Rainbow Story was launched with great fanfare on Android and iOS. If the game's community was there when it was released, what about today? In fact, this review and test of Rainbow Story Global will present the gameplay, the visual atmosphere, the business model and also the game's lifespan.

My opinion on Rainbow Story Global and its infinite dungeons and options

The MMORPG genre is not new and neither is its porting to mobile. However, it is clear that this test from Rainbow Story Global will reveal that the title has not tried to be different. Here, you enter a world of light and darkness, play as a male or female adventurer of your choice of class, and roam through various biomes with your mount and pets, in search of loot and glory.

As for the gameplay, the dungeons become quite repetitive and the adventure is mainly done in auto mode. In general, I think it's a pity for a game to propose an auto mode, but it's maybe a good point in my opinion for Rainbow Story Global which is placed in the category of easy pocket game with this mode. Moreover, the leveling up is too fast to have time to enjoy it (already level 50 in ten minutes), level 100 in an hour or two...

The interface is teeming with menus in all directions and there are many build options (pet, weapons and other options). In addition, social options such as marriage become available very early in the game session, making it easy to meet and befriend other players.

A cute world full of animals

The game's sound and visual effects are well done and colourful. The whole gives the title a pleasant atmosphere conducive to relaxation reinforced by a voice-guided tutorial that will show you the way to start. In my opinion, the whole thing manages to make Rainbow Story Global cute and endearing because of its sincerity.

However, I regret that the landscape exploration and character meeting phases are too often interrupted by very old-school instance loading. Some will see it as a reassuring loading of their childhood games and others will find it a shame to wait, but there is something for everyone. What is certain is that RSG is not an open-world.

Business model of the classic MMORPG?

While one might expect an MMORPG to have an infinite lifespan, one must also take into account player fatigue in Rainbow Story Global. Rainbow Story's business model divides the free and premium aspects of the game too much and everything pushes you to spend a little more every day. Every situation presents a new opportunity to show you that you are missing out by not buying this or that item. Added to this are the somewhat expensive packs for players and social features that are not as convenient as other MMO titles such as Lords Mobile.

This seems to be taking its toll on the community, who are deserting some servers, but hopefully the developers will be able to turn things around. It's a real shame given that the title has only recently hit the stores.

To conclude my review of Rainbow Story Global

Finally, to conclude my review of Rainbow Story Global, it is obvious that the game is not revolutionary. It takes all the codes of browser-based or side-scrolling MMORPGs as we have already known them on different platforms. However, it appropriates this genre with a cute visual identity and chibi characters that will certainly please more than one player. Be careful not to fall into the bottomless pit of in-game spending as there are plenty of opportunities, but you will be able to explore multiple lands on your mount and with your various pets.

Yaya Yaya would never have spent a single cent on a mobile game. At least, that's what the legend says.
