June 2022 news recap n2 on mobile gaming news

Check out the weekly recap of mobile gaming news on Android and iOS for the week of May 30th to June 5th 2022! On the agenda this week: Delphox in Pokémon Unite, COD Warzone mobile gameplay leak, a new season of the TFT Rising Legends tournament, the Summer Game Fest 2022 and much more to discover in this recap. We'll let you read all about it below. ⬇️

Leaks, new games and updates

1️⃣ Let's start this recap with the gameplay leak for Call of Duty Warzone on mobile. Revealed by Activision's test in alpha, these first images reveal the interface layout, the developing Gulag and the reappearance of a new Verdansk. According to the leaks, Park, Port and Farmland will be back among the maps, although new locations will also be included. Read all about the game in our dedicated article or pre-register now on TapTap to join the 500,000 players who don't want to miss the release.

2️⃣ This week, Supercell's tower defense takes the opportunity to launch its new season. So get your cards ready and welcome to season 36 of Clash Royale: Bone Pit. The new content obviously features our beloved skeletons, with a new Royal Pass and a new rage challenge: Giant Skeleton. For the strategists out there, we've detailed the map balancing updates for this season in our article in addition to the patch notes.

3️⃣ According to Sensor Tower, Niantic's most popular augmented reality game just passed a major financial milestone. Indeed, Pokémon GO joins the exclusive club of games that have exceeded $6 billion in revenue. With this new milestone after 6 years of existence, Pokémon GO moves up to 7th place in the ranking of the most profitable mobile games, far behind the 14 billion in revenue accumulated by Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor (its international version).

4️⃣ So, already a member of this club, Honor of Kings is getting a worldwide release... setting aside Arena of Valor, which was its official global port until now. The release of HoK was revealed mid-week by Level Infinite, the label recently created by Tencent to unify its big gaming productions, such as Don't Starve: New Home. In addition, the test phases of the title will be launched in mid-summer, although it is not possible to sign up for them at the moment. Of course, it is not known what this will mean for Arena of Valor and its players in the years to come.

5️⃣ We told you about it not long ago: a trading card game based on the Marvel multiverse and dreamed up by Hearthstone alumni was set to debut soon. Now we learn that Marvel Snap is already being progressively launched in the Philippines on Android and iOS. Soon, players based in the US, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Canada and Hong Kong will also be able to access the game as the title opens up to more countries around the world.

6️⃣ On the rewards side, this week we're honouring the winners of the Apple Design Awards 2022. The full list of winners is available in our article, but we've chosen to highlight Overboard! in this recap as well as A Musical Story. The latter, made by a French studio, wins the innovation award with its very poetic mix both graphically and musically.

Overboard! is a rather special title in that you are on board a ship where a crime has been committed, in a situation similar to an Agatha Christie novel. Except that you are not looking for the murderer... because it is you. The aim of the game is not to investigate but to avoid the suspicions of the NPCs. The game has several endings to its scenario depending on your decisions and therefore offers a good replayability in addition to an interesting concept.

Announcements Summer Game Fest 2022 mobile games

7️⃣ At first, it was impossible to predict what Summer Game Fest 2022 had in store for the mobile genre. Yet fans of the medium need not be disappointed as many games have already been announced, including from the Netflix side. Here is a list of the lucky ones:

  • Shadow and Bone: Destinies - Based on the series of the same name, this title will arrive in 2023 to expand the world of the Grishaverse onto the smartphone.
  • Too Hot To Handle - If you don't know what it's like to fear the sound of Lana, this game should make you find out as it takes on the main aspects of the Netflix reality series. In-game, you'll be able to meet attractive singles, well from 2023.
  • The Queen's Gambit: Chess - Like many, you have decided to take up or return to chess after watching the series? Well, you can train with chess lessons and challenges in addition to puzzles.
  • Desta: The Memories Between - A game made by Ustwo Games (the studio behind Monument Valley 1, 2 and 3), it falls into the real-time strategy genre where the goal is to care for and repair social relationships. The title will be released later in 2022.
  • La Casa de Papel: The Game - With Colombian studio Killasoft at the helm of this port of the hit Netflix series, you 'll take part in a new heist requested by the professor as repayment for a favour. Your target? A shady billionaire's casino in Monaco...
  • Lucky Luna - Due in summer 2022, this pixel art game is a 2D puzzle platformer where you play as Luna and go on an adventure in this beautiful and dangerous world.

Next, we discover Devolver's three mobile games for Netflix.

  • Reigns: Three Kingdoms - With an interface reminiscent of Lapse, this title will take you through the last difficult years of the Han Dynasty with numerous mini-games and a wide variation of mechanics to give you a unique story each time.
  • Terra Nil - An eco-conscious game, Terra Nil takes you into the genre of strategic construction in the midst of climate change. The title should address the reconstruction of the ecosystem to provide an ecological paradise.
  • Poinpy - This modern day Doodle jump will push you higher and higher without missing your next platform.

In addition to these titles, Spiritfarer will be adapted for mobile in addition to Raji: An Ancient Epic and the Wild Animals match-3.

8️⃣ To open the Summer Game Fest 2022 festivities, Zenless Zone Zero has enjoyed a new trailer. The upcoming HoYoverse title will take you from one world to another as a great catastrophe threatens humanity. Compared to Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero swaps the colourful and charming medieval fantasy world for a post-apo, urban pop and gun-oriented setting while maintaining a similar graphical style. We already know that Z.Z.Z. has around 12 heroes and a range of modern weapons from guns to circular saws to allow you to explore the world with maximum brutality and explosions.

9️⃣ During the June 2022 stream, studio Dev Sisters unveiled many new features for Cookie Run: Kingdom. First, we discover decoration improvements and better production management. In addition, the guild battle, which has been in beta for the past year, has been fully released, with a teaser of new guild bosses. You will be able to take advantage of new progression systems to get more rewards and additional content in various game modes.

Partnerships of the week

🔟 Let's move on to two partnerships that stood out this week. First of all, Diablo Immortal, which is already over 10 million downloads and is perfectly unaware of the hatred it is the target of (because of its entire business model, not just the lootboxes) decides instead to make its bread with Burger King in Korea.

Diablo Immortal x Burger King

So check out the Diablo Ultimate Donut King, which you'll never eat but follows on from last year's limited edition beer in partnership with Magpie Brewing Co.

Plus, if you like blood and kinky versions of the Avengers, you'll be pleased to know that The Boys are coming to PUBG mobile with a new partnership. In-game, you'll be able to get the outfits of iconic characters from the series: Soldier Boy, Starlight or Homelander in addition to skins collectibles.
