Mobile Games News Review | Week of 9-15 May 2022

May 2022 mobile games news recap n3

Discover the weekly recap of mobile games news on Android and iOS for the week of May 9 to 15, 2022! On the agenda this week: the worldwide release of Dislyte, an alpha for Call of Duty Warzone mobile, a new fighter Pokémon Unite and much more to discover in this recap. We'll let you read it all below. ⬇️

1️⃣ Let's start this recap with the official announcement of the Call of Duty Warzone alpha on mobile. Codenamed Project Aurora, COD Warzone will indeed get its mobile port. Given all the leaks over the last few months on the subject, it must have forced Activision's hand a little to unveil its game. Unfortunately, only certain testers will be selected directly by Activision for this first phase of test of the battle royale designed exclusively for smartphones.

2️⃣ This week saw the release of Dislyte, a highly anticipated "pop" RPG on mobile. While some of you have been playing it via APK for a while, all players will now be able to access it, on Android and iOS. With the end of the beta, you will be able to pick up rewards for the worldwide launch and discover the original visual and musical universe of Dislyte. Based on a classic strategic gacha system, Lilith Games' title mixes mythology and EDM in a dynamic cocktail that has already convinced thousands of addicted players.

3️⃣ Small discovery of this week, the test version of New Dawn invited itself on TapTap. An open-world game in the style of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, New Dawn is the first such ambitious title offered by Seasun Corporation, a studio game on mobile. Gameplay-wise, it's a harvesting, crafting and building RPG with classic durability mechanics, a recipe system, upcoming co-op features and plenty of environments to explore. While the building system doesn't make it easy to pick up at the moment, the title has picked up some good ideas from the competition and we'll have to keep an eye on its development to see if it can live up to its ambitions. If you haven't seen it in time, you can no longer download test from New Dawn on mobile, but the servers are still active, so we'll keep testing it for you.

4️⃣ It's already time for the second alpha test of Battlefield mobile! Unfortunately, French speaking countries are still not invited as only players located in Mexico, Colombia, Egypt, Iraq or armed with their VPN will be able to take part in test. New content such as maps, game modes and additional weapons are introduced in this second alpha of Battlefield on mobile, and we hope to be able to test them soon from home.

5️⃣ Known for its big licenses, Electronic Arts announced this week that a new Lord of the Rings mobile game is in the works, following the strategy game Rise to War. This new title, titled Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth, will be an RPG with collectibles and combat at turn-based. Not much is known about this new mobile LOTR game, except that it will feature characters from both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and that the title will be offered a beta in some regions this summer.

6️⃣ You can now sign up for a chance to participate in the closed beta of Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown. Currently, the developers are recruiting 10,000 testers until Monday, May 16. The announcement of the selected players will take place on May 26 and the beta will run from June 10-14, 2022, so you'll have to wait a little longer to see the results. You can register on the official website as an Android or iOS player and maybe you can celebrate the 10th anniversary of the licence directly in-game, in its new opus.

7️⃣ Alongside the opening of pre-registration for Chimeraland in North America only, an MMORPG filled with chimerical creatures blending the bodies of the most famous beasts from cultures around the world, another MMORPG is launching, the fantasy game Araka, which in turn is making its debut in Southeast Asia. This title expands the field of possibilities with battles on land but also in the air and a community that has already reached 5 million players on Android and iOS.

8️⃣ After the arrival of Azumarill, it is the turn of Espeon to join Pokémon Unite. Second evolution ofEevee to join the arena, Espeon is a Pokémon ranged attacker who will certainly be a game-changer. He will obviously share his early gameplay with Sylveon, but his moveset will set him apart as soon as he evolves. Appearing in Pokémon Gold and Silver, Espeon will be the 35th Pokémon in the Nintendo MOBA mobile and Switch roster.

9️⃣ May updates are raining down on many games. PUBG: New State is no exception to the rule as the Battle Royale is getting a new map, resembling Erangel, which lands in-game in Deathmatch mode, for more varied clashes. While not much is known about this map, another teased map is also expected to be released in the first half of 2022. Players are looking forward to fighting on other terrains as the experience is a bit repetitive at this stage.

🔟 After announcing plans to integrate NFT and blockchain, Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds will finally release on May 25 worldwide. Its launch on Android, iOS and PC will allow players from all regions to join the game's story as beta testers of a virtual reality title called Soul Divers. As a Swordsman, Witch, Thief, Engineer or Destroyer, you'll be able to roam the world of Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds and summon up to three pets into battle. You can still pre-register for additional rewards at launch on Appstore and Playstore.

1️⃣1️⃣ First appeared via Tencent job postings, Need for Speed Mobile is well and truly in development at TiMi Studios as a gameplay leak was discovered this week. Shared on the Need for Speed subreddit, this rush of the mobile port has finally allowed players to enjoy the title in action. With no official announcement of the game yet, little is known about Need for Speed mobile. On the other hand, the current build doesn't show any story or police and only offers 3 cars, which indicates a not very advanced development.

1️⃣2️⃣ Once again, Riot Games is filing a lawsuit against Moonton and its Mobile Legends title. Heavily documented with screenshots and messages from the community regarding the obvious copying of certain elements, these lawsuits are being launched in the US. As a reminder, Riot had lost its lawsuit against Mobile Legends in China based on previous plagiarism accusations. You don't need to have gone to Harvard to realise that the Stargazer is not an original invention of Moonton.

1️⃣3️⃣ Mark the date of May 17 on your calendar, so you don't miss the official release ofApex Legends mobile on that day. After this announcement, we discovered a new trailer for the worldwide launch of the game in its final version. Very focused on the competitive aspect, we hope that this adaptation will convince us and you.

1️⃣4️⃣ On the competitive side, we also learn that special Genshin Impact tournaments will be held for students in the UK. Organised by the National Student Esports and HoYoverse, these events are aimed at universities to encourage them to create activity around the game ahead of the Genshin Impact University Invitational UK later this month for €13,000 cashprize.

1️⃣5️⃣ Game over for Tales of Luminaria. With mixed reviews and a shaky launch 5 months ago, the latest title in the Tales of series has decided to close its doors. The game's final update will take place at the end of the month before a final shutdown of the servers on July 19, 2022, as the developers felt they couldn't do enough to keep the ship afloat.

1️⃣6️⃣ This week, XD Entertainment announced the start of a test phase for Raccoon Unhappyits action-oriented, furry roguelike. One month after opening up pre-registration, the game's development team has decided to take the plunge and test out its gameplay ideas, even though it believes it will not be able to meet players' expectations at this stage of development. With this test, players will be able to send their feedback and participate in the elaboration of the future of Raccoon Unhappy alongside the studio.

1️⃣7️⃣ From May 14-15, the Lobby Legends: Garden of the Nobles tournament will see 16 players compete on Hearthstone's Battlegrounds mode. They will compete for a $50,000 cash prize. After the first day, the top 8 players will advance to the finals in the Checkmate format, until one player reaches 20 points and then validates a first place finish that will make them the grand champion.

Yaya Yaya would never have spent a single cent on a mobile game. At least, that's what the legend says.
