May 2022 mobile games news round-up

Discover the weekly recap of mobile games news on Android and iOS for the week of May 23 to 29, 2022! On the agenda this week: Diablo Immortal which will not be released in some European countries, the launch of Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds and Catalyst Black, a lot of new mobile games from NetEase and much more to discover in this recap. We'll let you read it all below. ⬇️

New mobile game releases of the week

1️⃣ Let's start this recap with the release of the highly anticipated Catalyst Black, the new MOBA shooter on mobile from Super Evil Megacorp. A breath of fresh air in the world of arena combat, the title shakes up the codes of the genre, notably with its fully customizable arsenal system, its interesting approach between PvE and PvP and its ultimate Primitive transformation mechanic.

If you haven't already done so, go and try Catalyst Black or check out our test to see if you might like it.

Even if we hope that Catalyst Black will take over the torch esport from Vainglory, only time will tell. In any case, the potential is there.

2️⃣ In addition to Catalyst Black, Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds was also released this week on Android and iOS. With its sublime aesthetic thought to take on Studio Ghibli's mobile aesthetic, the game is an MMORPG with defined classes. To enter the virtual world of Ni No Kuni, you can choose to play as the Rebel, the Hammerer, the Witch, the Scholar or the Swordswoman and set out to save the queen of a medieval fantasy kingdom. You will be accompanied in your adventures by Cluu, your flying pig with a lucky clover on his head and... the famous automatic mode. A word of advice: don't overuse it if you don't want to get bored of the beautiful world of Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds too quickly. Later on, the title will integrate blockchain-related features, although no more is known at the moment.

3️⃣ After some negative feedback on its visual appearance during its first alpha, Battlefield Mobile got all dressed up for the launch of its open test phase on TapTap. We've tested it for you, and it must be said that this mobile port takes up the codes of the license very well. So, choose between the Pathfinder, the Support, the Engineer and the Assault character to engage in one of the three available modes: either deathmatch, capture the flag or area control.

In Battlefield Mobile, you'll drive a variety of vehicles and enjoy smashing through the destructible environment of the game's large maps. Unfortunately, the servers are not very stable at this stage of development and matchmaking will certainly push you to games where the score is already well advanced, which will hamper the immersion. In any case, you can download Battlefield Mobile right now on TapTap to get a feel for this new mobile FPS, provided you're playing on Android.

4️⃣ Let's continue the long list of mobile announcements of the week with all the titles highlighted by NetEase Connect 2022, a conference held this week by the publisher. first of all, Naraka: Bladepoint, which has been hanging around on our pre-registration page for months, has indeed promised testing phases soon, for a release that shouldn't be too far away. As a reminder, Naraka is a Battle Royale focused on close combat that has been very successful on PC. It will be interesting to see the field of possibilities widen on mobile with Naraka: Bladepoint and its martial arts, whereas the Final Fantasy Brave Soldier Battle Royale had already convinced thanks to its mix of hand-to-hand and distance combat.

5️⃣ Announced just over a year ago, the multiplayer spy hitman titled Mission Zero is finally resurfacing. The NetEase title still doesn't offer a release date but reveals some footage in a new rhythmic trailer. As I really like games with asymmetric gameplay and a hint of treachery or concealment, I have to say that I'm quite interested in Mission Zero, even if it will probably be a while before I can test it.

6️⃣ Very mysterious, the title Once Be Human was only allowed 30 seconds of trailer Cinematic. Both intriguing and disturbing, this game from NetEase does not tell us much about its content. During the conference, we understand that Once Be Human is a post-collapse survival game, where monsters sow chaos and where only new generation humans, the Beyonders, can resist.

7️⃣ With over a million pre-registrations, there's no doubt thatHarry Potter : Magic Emerges has been building hype ahead of its launch. At NetEase Connect 2022, we get a look at the title's overall launch trailer, which is generally well done, but doesn't tell us much about the game's release date. The trailer only confirms that this new mobile game Harry Potter will have a worldwide launch in 2022, probably soon.

8️⃣ Easter is already behind us, but it's not yet time to say goodbye to the rabbits. In King Rabbit Race, you take part in a multiplayer rabbit race with a daily challenge map to tryhard every day to improve your accuracy, time, and most importantly your ranking. Currently available for pre-registration, this crazy race is full of traps and tricks for challenging runs.

9️⃣ Following its release on PC and console in 2020, Streets of Rage 4 finally makes its mobile debut thanks to Playdigious. The only new game in the licence since 1994, the title features updated art direction and combat gameplay with excellent touchscreen gameplay. The title is available since this week on Android and iOS for 8 euros and no microtransactions.

🔟 Zombies also exist in real life. With the announcement of the closure of Aotu World in April, barely 6 months after its launch, we already saw the tactical combat game dead and buried. However, it is back from the dead, revived by the necromancy of the metaverse and blockchain as theAotuverse. As China's second most popular anime, Aotu was not about to bid farewell to its 60 million potential player fanbase. With this step into the blockchain, the title resurrected by Catheon Gaming and MultiMetaverse makes Aotu the biggest anime license to hit the play-to-earn market. You can learn more about the game by visiting its official website.

1️⃣1️⃣ Hold on to your lootboxes, Diablo Immortal is coming to mobile and PC on June 2... but not in all European countries. So, if you live in Belgium or the Netherlands, have been waiting for Blizzard's RPG for a long time and don't mind illegality, arm yourself with your best VPN. As has been the case for several years now, some European countries have started to implement laws to protect against in-game lottery systems, especially lootboxes. As a result, even a major title like Diablo Immortal is being sidelined because of its use of randomized loot boxes that can be opened by purchasing keys. Blizzard doesn't guarantee that players using a VPN or emulator to install the game from another country will be banned, but doesn't promise the opposite either. So, may fate be kind to you!

1️⃣2️⃣ Brought to you by Kuro Games. Wuthering Waves, is a new RPG from the creators of Punishing Grey Raven. With a deep story marked by the Rover tragedy, Wuthering Waves invites you to explore its devastated industrial world and make your own choices. Not much is known about the gameplay of this new title, but pre-registrations are already open on Taptap.

1️⃣3️⃣ On the pre-registration side of things, Jurassic World Primal Ops is where the eyes turn. This top-down action game is positioned as a gacha where you come to the aid of dinosaurs in desperate situations around the world. The title is due to be released soon and some fans are confident that its release will coincide with the next film.

1️⃣4️⃣ Worldwalker expansion released on May 25 integrates Legends of Runeterra with 4 new champions. Discover Jhin, Bard, Illaoi and Annie in the TCG of Riot Games, as well as new game mechanics and additional cards. Moreover, Noxus and Demacia are the two new regions of the Path of Champions and the progression system has been redesigned. All the changes can be found in the patch notes of the expansion or directly in-game.

1️⃣5️⃣ This week, TFT set 7 makes its debut on the PBE servers. This set is called Dragonlands and features new classes such as Dragons, Dragon Riders and Dracomancers, as well as their enemies the Scalers, and the arrival of the Treasure Dragon which offers equipment and the return of augments. To discover all the important elements of this new set, go to our dedicated article or wait until June 8th to test them for yourself on the live servers.

1️⃣6️⃣ While Dislyte is on its way to fame thanks to its originality, Lilith Games' title will get its first major update since its release. On May 31, you'll be able to discover the new Espers Dislyte Ollie, Nicole, Laura and Meredith, all of them supports, directly in-game and try to obtain them to improve your composition. Ollie, the only Legendary Esper in this update, will have a boosted drop rate and you'll be able to get Meredith for free by completing event quests.

1️⃣7️⃣ After Take-Two's takeover of Zynga and then Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard King earlier this year, the video game industry is increasingly focused on its big players, who have been on the hunt for numerous potential acquisitions. For its part, Electronic Arts seems to be more than interested in the idea of being bought out, even if the opportunities so far have not met with the success the company had hoped for. With all the recent changes at EA to its big licenses, notably FIFA, there may be more upheaval in the future.

1️⃣8️⃣ On the esport side, with 92 points from 6 games, Attack All Around wins the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) 2022 Sentosa. The team walks away with $500,000 of the $2 million at stake in the tournament and is followed on the podium by EVOS Phoenix who finished second out of 18 teams in the competition held in Sentosa, Singapore.

1️⃣9️⃣ Even though the SEA Games gather events on multiple games including PUBG or Wild Rift, it is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang that remains the star. With this 2022 edition, Moonton's title confirms the incredible engagement of its Asian community by reaching a peak of 2.2 million simultaneous viewers, 10 times more than the last edition of the SEA Games. This record was reached during the match between Team Philippines and Team Indonesia.

Yaya
Yaya Yaya would never have spent a single cent on a mobile game. At least, that's what the legend says.
