Peak Games acquired by Zynga for $1.8 billion

The video game company Zynga has bought the Turkish studio Peak Games for the colossal sum of1.8 billion dollars. This sum is justified by the 12 million daily players who play Toy Blast and Toon Blast, developed by Peak Games. These games, similar to the popular Candy Crush, are the studio's biggest hits.

The president of Zynga welcomed the acquisition on Twitter.

A great commercial operation for Zynga

Zynga did not spend without thinking. In fact, to be precise, the company actually spent only half of the actual amount, 900 million. The rest was paid in shares. Secondly, Toy Blast and Toon Blast are games with a very successful business model. Both games are very profitable and are respectively in the top 10 and top 20 best selling mobile games of the last 2 years. They are free to download but you have to pay to progress faster.

In addition, Zynga will diversify its audience in two ways. On the one hand, because the company known for its so-called "social" games will reach another category of players. On the other hand, where the company has a predominantly American audience, Peak Games has a more international focus. With the acquisition of this studio, Zynga hopes to increase its audience by at least 60%.

A long history between Zynga and Peak Games

This buyout is all the more notable given the history between the company and the studio. In 2017, the US company had already bought the studio's mobile card game division for the modest sum of 100 million. Two years after the buyout of games like Spade Plus, Gin Rummy Plus or 101 Okey Plus, the deal has paid off. So it seems that this first buyout was a success.

For the record, Zynga also tried to develop its own Candy Crush-style game. But the game, named Wonka's World of Candy never managed to take off. Without judging the quality of the game, it never managed to generate revenues comparable to Toon Blast.

The two former competitors, now partners, should now continue their progress together. Sidar Sahin, founder and CEO of Peak Games, emphasised that this acquisition was first and foremost a partnership.
