The Seven Deadly Sins is a hit in both anime and game form. Netmarble, the company that develops the mobile game, reported a significant increase in revenue during the first quarter of 2020. With net profits of $48.2 million, one can imagine that containment has provided a nice boost.
Among the games developed by the Korean company, The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross is one of the most successful and profitable. The game, released in June 2019 in Japan, alone accounts for 12% of revenues!
The success of the game is expected to continue to grow. The global version for the West was released in March 2020. Since then, the game's downloads have consistently ranked high in Google Play and the IOS shop.
Netmarble is hoping to build on the popularity of the anime. While the series has recently been available on Netflixseason 4 is expected to be released in October. This promises a dynamic environment for all fans.
And who is your favourite character? Ban the immortal? Diana the giantess? King the Fairy King? Escanor the human at the top or the inevitable Captain Meliodas? Nanatsu no Taizai in its original language still has a long way to go.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross may be doing well, but it is not the game that brings in the most money for the Korean company. In first place is Marvel Contest of Champion. A game that is well established in the hearts of fans and represents 14% of Netmarble's revenues. It also has a bit more bottle since its release dates back to 2015. Next in line are Lineage 2: Revolution (11% of revenues), Blade & Soul Revolution (8%) and Cooking Jam (5%).
The company is particularly profitable in the US. Europe accounts for "only" 10% of the game's revenues. Across the Atlantic, the share is 33%! Although the US has a very large population, these are still impressive figures. In its home country, Netmarble still makes 29% of its profits. This is a very good figure, as South Korea has a population of just over 51 million.
