Good to know before buying a tablet for gaming

It is important to look carefully at certain components before buying a gaming tablet. The main purpose of your new toy will be to run increasingly resource-intensive games as well as possible. Another important criterion is that you should be comfortable playing games, because you spend a lot of time on them, and if it's only to break your eyes and wrists, you may quickly regret your purchase!

1. What is the ideal screen size for gaming?

The ideal screen size will be the one that suits you best (ok, great advice! 😅). Between 7 and 13, there's something for everyone. But it's true that buying a tablet for gaming and ending up with a screen barely bigger than your smartphone, it's hard to see the point. Today's phones have screens averaging 6 inches. So go for a tablet with a screen of at least 9 inches. The ideal is really 10 inches when you want to use your tablet for games.

Good to know: if the screen size of tablets is still not enough for you, you can play mobile games on PCs and use your computer screen without any problem! 👌

2. What is the best technical configuration?

Playing games will require more resources from your tablet than just checking email or watching Netflix. The latest iPads have really powerful configurations, so you can play all games without restriction (more on that below). Android tablets have everything, so be careful before buying a tablet for gaming. You need to look at the processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon (the best are the 855 and 865) and the RAM (random access memory). 4GB will be a minimum to run the heaviest games properly .

3. What gaming accessories can be paired with your tablet?

There are many accessories that can be used with your tablet toenhance your gaming experience. In fact, we'll have a dedicated buying guide to help you find the best accessories. With bluetooth, you can get wireless headphones for a much cooler sound experience than with the tablet's own sound.

Logically, a wireless controller will be ideal to play in a very fluid way ( Xbox and Playstation 4 controllers are Bluetooth compatible). Finally, even though tablets have their own storage capacity, an SD memory card will be very useful for storing a very large number of games (almost) without limit.

🔎 Editor's opinion on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 tablet

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6

The Galaxy Tab S6 offers very high performance . It is without doubt the best Android tablet on the market, gently tickling its Apple rival (iPad Pro 11). It is equipped with a superb screen that borders on perfection (Super Amoled HDR10+ of 10.5 inches). A real comfort to play for hours.

128 or 256GB of storage (there's an SD card slot to expand storage if needed), 8GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 855. It's not the latest of the generation, but it holds up brilliantly. It's super smooth on all the games found on the Play Store, it works every time, the graphics quality is really remarkable. We tested it on PUBG mobile and Fortnite, and honestly, no slowdown even with the graphics at maximum.

⭐️ Another alternative if you have a slightly larger budget to spend on your tablet for gaming is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 (the latest). Expect to pay between £100 and £200 more to clearly optimise your gaming experience. This latest tablet will take you to the top of the mobile gaming world with its ultra immersive 120Hz screen and long battery life. Tested and approved by the editors! 👍

The latest iPad to be released in 2020 is the Apple iPad Pro 11. It's hard to beat that in the tablet market! Its Android competitor is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, which we have just introduced. If you used to play on iOS with an iPhone, the iPadOS version will be your new ideal. This iPad offers an impressive gaming experience: an IPS LCD "Liquid Retina" panel, 4 stereo speakers emitting a powerful and clear sound, a refresh rate of 120 Hz (this is the best and it is the best for playing Battle Royale in particular), 6 GB of RAM and a processor that moves! The autonomy is also to be noted with 10 to 12 hours of play possible without recharging. It offers a choice of 4 storage capacities: 128, 256, 512 and 1024 GB. Finally, on all the titles in the AppStore andApple Arcade, the iPad Pro 11 offers an ultra-smooth experience. Velvet!

🔎 Editor's opinion on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e tablet

Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e

If you don't have the budget to afford the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 and you're still looking for the best Android tablet , well, this is the one to go for! Released in 2019, a few months before the S6, the Galaxy Tab S5e is an excellent choice for gaming. Excellent value for money, a great screen (Super Amoled) as we know them at Samsung with this brightness and these exceptional contrasts. The small Snapdragon 670 works well, but beware, it will show its limits on games too greedy and where responsiveness is required (note that there is also only 4 GB of RAM). Nothing to say about the battery, which holds up well. Without doubt, this is a gamer tablet that's worth a look, available with 64 or 128 GB of storage. A good tablet that fits perfectly in this buying guide !

🔎 Editor's opinion on the Apple iPad 2019 10.2 tablet

Released in late 2019, this is the first iPad to feature Apple's own iPadOS system. Again, if you don't have the budget to afford the latest iPad Pro 11, then this will be the best choice. The autonomy is quite important with a strong battery. The performance is admittedly weaker than on the iPad Pro 11, as the processor is really starting to date, but it holds its own (only 3GB of RAM comes with it). An "entry-level" iPad, offered with 32 or 128 GB of storage, which allows Apple fans to have a cheap gaming tablet.

🔎 Editor's opinion on the Lenovo Tab M10 Plus tablet

Lenovo Tab M10 Plus Tablet
Lenovo Tab M10 Plus

The Lenovo Tab M10 Plus is thecheapest gaming tablet in this buying guide and is ideal for budget gamers who want to play on Android. Its screen size is very good for gaming (10.3 inches). 64GB of internal storage expandable to 256GB with SD card support. An entry-level processor and 4GB of RAM will be a little short for competitive games, but it will be enough to relax on mainstream games. Honest specs for an honest price. In fact, it's one of the most interesting price/performance ratios of 2020!

🔎 Editor's review of the Amazon Fire HD8 (2020) tablet

Amazon Fire HD8 tablet (2020)
Amazon Fire HD8 (2020)

The cheapest, of course, but as you might expect, also the least powerful . It will allow you to play games that require very few resources. As proof, it is equipped with an entry-level processor and only 2 GB of RAM (so not really a gamer tablet in the first sense of the word). 32 or 64 GB of storage capacity expandable via micro SD. It's a small 8 inch tablet, with a decent screen and a battery that holds up well. The operating system is indeed Android, but Google services will not be available. You'll have to go through theAmazon Appstore to buy and download Amazon apps and games.

I don't know how long ago it was, but I have the tab S6 and on fortnite it's a real pain in the ass, better than on switch, but for a few seasons now I've gone from high quality and constant 60fps to low quality, 75% graphics resolution and between 60 and 40fps. Horrible for stream! I'm not sure if it's a good game or not, but I'm sure it's a good game, and I'm not sure if it's a good game or not. I hope my comment will be useful.

I'm planning to buy a PC for cross-platform games

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions 🙂 It's true that the S6 is getting a bit old but is still viable for most games! It's a good compromise in terms of price but I use the S7 which is better in terms of performance 😉
