Crash Bandicoot: On the Run to close in February

Crash Bandicoot On the Run servers shutdown

After barely a year of existence, King's mobile runner is already throwing in the towel. Crash Bandicoot: On the Run will close on February 16, 2023, and fans will have to start saying goodbye much earlier. If you want to enjoy it before the game's complete shutdown, don't forget to spend your purple crystals. I detail the announcement from the game's developers to find out why Crash on mobile is shutting down and giving up today.

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run, long inactive

Inactive on Twitter since its debut, Crash Bandicoot on mobile isn't exactly a success for King. Amidst the controversy surrounding Microsoft's takeover of Activision Blizzard King, which has been scrutinized by all the financial control bodies, the mobile runner Crash Bandicoot based on the license imagined by Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin in 1996 has not managed to make its mark sufficiently to meet the expectations of its publisher.

This is quite surprising when you consider that Crash Bandicoot was ranked among the best runners on Android and iOS and that the game, both single and multiplayer, had reached 20 million downloads very quickly.

Play Crash Bandicoot: On the Run after the servers have closed

As with all the other discontinued games, the announcement of the closure of Crash Bandicoot: On The Run, which has been inactive for a long time, is accompanied by an immediate end to in-app purchases. In the year since its release, King's mobile runner has found its audience and expanded the Crash license on mobile but without revolutionizing the genre. Facing titans like Subway Surfers, Temple Run or Rabbids, it wasn't enough.

Use your purple crystals before the end!

Obviously saddened to abandon their project, the developers shared the announcement of the discontinuation of Crash Bandicoot: On the Run on Android and iOS with the community via a Facebook post.

A word from the developers about the closure of Crash mobile

Crash fans, it is with a heavy heart that we inform you of our decision to end the service of Crash Bandicoot: On the Run on February 16, 2023.

It meant a lot to us to bring your favorite Crash characters to life and we sincerely enjoyed making this game. Thank you for your time and we hope you will join us on one of our many other games.

Facebook post of the King developers' announcement

Despite the sadness of fans, this message suggests that, like Clash Quest abandoned by Supercell in September 2022, the developers of Crash Bandicoot: On the Run needed to be transferred to another King project in development.

Crash Team Rumble announced at The Game Awards 2022

But the Crash license doesn't stop here and neither does King. If you want to continue the adventure, Crash Team Rumble will soon be released on console for multiplayer platforming fun.

How to play Crash on mobile after the game has closed?

It may seem strange not to be able to play a mobile runner that you have already installed when it works mostly offline. However, this is the most common decision among developers who abandon their game, to avoid distributions and content alterations around the game.

Crash Bandicoot: on the run unavailable on mobile

Why is it impossible to access Crash Bandicoot: On the Run? Simply because it's King's choice. After February 16, 2023, the game will be permanently unavailable and out of service. You won't be able to download it or enjoy its gameplay if you have it installed. It will be a total shutdown of the servers.

I'll leave you with a little gameplay of Crash Bandicoot: On the Run, inactive and unavailable from February 2023.

Yaya Yaya would never have spent a single cent on a mobile game. At least, that's what the legend says.
