best mobile moba Android and iOS

Hello everyone! Let me stop you right there. No, MOBAs are not just for PC players! 😆 Preconceived ideas are hard to come by, so it's time to set the record straight. It's impossible to miss these sensational games that are increasingly being released on our phones.
Indeed, Mobile MOBAs have never been so popular, especially since the release of the giant of the genre that will inevitably crush all its opponents in its path. I'm talking about the long awaited League of Legends: Wild Rift. You can understand why we at the editor's office felt compelled to cook up a little article of our own.
So to get a clear idea of the content that can be found on mobile for this kind of game, I invite you to check out our selection of the best mobile MOBAs that can be found on Android and iOS right now. Are you ready to play?

What exactly is a Mobile Moba?

Seriously? You don't know what a MOBA is? What kind of gaming world do you live in?
Well, I'm going to answer that question anyway, to help out any newbies out there who might want to get started.
So, to start with, MOBA is an acronym for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Or multiplayer online battle arena (but it's much less classy said that way). 🤔

The principle is the same in many games of the genre. Basically, 2 teams (from 3 to 5 players) compete on a map, an arena. The goal is to be the first team to defeat the opposing team by destroying their base. You advance along the lanes with your hero and destroy the enemy turrets with your minions, your creeps, your small allied monsters, controlled by the AI. One of your teammates needs help? Use your skills to heal him, defend him and defeat your opponents with your ultimate skill.
As you can see, team play is essential. Indeed, communication and strategy are at the heart of MOBAgameplay.

The MOBA mobile games are often free(free-to-play) and offer in-game purchases that are only cosmetic (so no pay-to-win aspect!). Indeed, they are open to all types of players and remain accessible to the greatest number. 🤑

Secondly, it's a genre that has really succeeded in making its mark on the scene esport. If you're more of a PC person, you're probably familiar with the League of Legends behemoth from Riot Games, Valve Studios' Dota 2 or Blizzard's MOBA, Heroes of the Storm.

But today, this model is no longer only dedicated to PC players and games that look like League of Legends, there are many! Whether on Android or iOS, there are mobile MOBAs on both platforms.

League of Legends is coming to mobile with its LoL: Wild Rift version which is literally exploding the download counters on the stores! How can you miss this nugget if you're a MOBA fan? LoL addicts are already tryinghard, so it's time to get in on the action!
Wild Rift features an easy-to-use interface and touch controls optimised for gameplay. Moreover, the games are very dynamic and the matchmaking is fast. By the way, if you have never played a mobile MOBA before, don't panic! Wild Rift offers a series of tutorials at launch to teach you the mechanics. Finally, all the heroes can be obtained for free, but not all of them are implemented in the mobile version for the moment.
I only have one word (or two) to say, go for it!

2️⃣ Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Some call it a pale copy of LoL and others are seduced by the gameplay. All tastes are catered for in mobile games, aren't they? Nevertheless, it is one of the most played MOBAs on mobile.
5v5 battles, 3 lanes on the map to reach the enemy tower, jungle zones and different roles for the heroes... all the ingredients of a pure mobile MOBA! Nothing to say about the graphics and the content in general. Games last about 10 minutes, well optimized for phones.
However, perhaps the matchmaking system and the balancing of some heroes could be reviewed, but we quibble. In any case, it is definitely in the top Android MOBA!

If your number one criterion for a mobile game is the French language, skip it, this MOBA is not available in FR. On the other hand, if you want to enjoy a beautiful manga universe where graphics and character originality are of good quality, then try Unmyoji Arena. Highly rated on the stores, it seduces with its animations, its fluidity and its universe. You will have the opportunity to play in 5v5, 3v3 and even 1v1 in very small arenas.
Its originality? A Battle Royale mode in 3v3v3.
Finally, the only downside is that the waiting time between each game is a bit long and the matchmaking is affected by a smaller community than its competitors.

icon Heroes Strike

4️⃣ Heroes Strike

Halfway between a mobile MOBA, a Battle Royale and a gameplay like Brawl stars, Heroes Strike receives very good ratings on the stores! We're leaning towards this game if we like fast and very dynamic games. Moreover, the graphics are colourful with a cartoon effect that we like. More than 40 heroes are available and different game modes await you. Worth a try, but beware, it is totally addictive!

icon Arena of Valor

5️⃣ Arena of Valor

Arena of Valor (AoV) offers 5 vs 5 games with the same 3 lanes system (top, bottom and jungle) as Wild Rift. Indeed, it can easily be compared to LoL, as its graphical footprint resembles it. The winning gameplay formulas are present and the length of the games is definitely adapted to the mobile support.
Moreover, we like the 3v3 and 1v1 games that are proposed and the astronomical quantity of playable heroes. Finally, it is quite resource-intensive, but the animation effects are very nice.

LoA is a 5v5 mobile MOBA. It doesn't revolutionize the genre, but it is a natural addition to this list. Indeed, the game offers beautiful graphics and a gameplay a little different from the others. A card system (and not an item system) allows you to upgrade and strengthen your heroes. Also, quick games, about 10 minutes long, are well adapted to mobile play.
On the other hand, no FR translation is planned yet, but let's be honest, it's not the writing that makes this game strong.

icon Champions Legion

7️⃣ CL:Champions Legion

➡️ Se e more action games on the Play Store

available on google play

The only MOBA of this selection only available on Android, Champions Legion offers French content. Far from being the best Android MOBA, it has the merit of not being pay-to-win, in-game purchases are only cosmetic (and we appreciate that!). All the elements of a successful mobile MOBA are present. A must try, if you want a change from the classics!

icon Heroes Evolved

8️⃣ Heroes Evolved

➡️ Se e other games from the same publisher

available on google play
available on app store

Extremely classicMOBA from a gameplay point of view (3 lines, 5v5, 3v3, etc.). But what we like is the general Chaos mode, less traditional and more original, since your spells will not have any cooldown time, nor will they cost energy. Furthermore, in Heroes Evolved, you have the possibility to create clans with friends you meet in-game. This offers the possibility to quickly find allies of your level to tryhard in ranked (and compensate for the defects of matchmaking). Finally, a wide choice of heroes allows you to have fun.
A downside is that the pay-to-win system is a bit too present to have access to certain heroes.

9️⃣ Extraordinary Ones

➡️ Se e other games from NetEase Games

We are fans of the manga universe and the very successful anime graphics. Indeed, this is clearly what makes Extraordinary Ones a good choice. Otherwise, it's a MOBA that's quite classic in its gameplay, but we appreciate that it's not at all pay-to-win. The characters are all very different, with their own fighting styles and a sophisticated character design.
Unfortunately, the low number of players makes matchmaking unbalanced and lengthens the waiting time between games.

Info: Why isn't Vainglory in this ranking?

Until recently, Vainglory would have topped this list, or nearly so. Long considered as one of the best MOBAs on mobiles and tablets, it is now in decline. Indeed, the publisher has suddenly decided to stop supporting the game, leaving the developers to take over. Even if they promise to continue updates and server maintenance, the community is disillusioned and feels left out. So if you want to invest in a MOBA, Vainglory may not be the best idea as there are so many games competing with it on the stores.
