Genshin in anime? After 2 years of waiting, we finally know more!

Genshin Impact Honkai Star Rail anime

The project has been known since 2022 (in fact, a concept trailer was already released in 2023) but it took two years for it to become a reality. Backed by the Chinese government in Shanghai and accompanied by Japanese animation studio Ufotable, MiHoYo has confirmed that it is preparing the Genshin Impact Honkai Star Rail anime. This is sure to make fans of these licences tingle with anticipation, but unfortunately they'll have to wait and see. No release date has yet been announced, although the broad outlines of the project are already taking shape.

Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail anime announced: what we know about the project

Following on from Girls Frontline and Blue Archive, Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail will also be getting their own anime series, brought to you by the Ufotable studio, best known for creating the celebrated Demon Slayer. For the moment, no clear information has been leaked about the synopsis, the story or the characters who will be featured in these two series.

However, if the 2023 leaks and the concept trailer are anything to go by, the Traveller will be there, and the story, which will run for around a hundred episodes, could well retrace the events of Teyvat.

It goes without saying that fans can expect to see Raiden Shogun, Furina, Navia and the other familiar faces of Genshin, characters with full personalities and backgrounds and striking designs that make them virtual individuals in their own right. MiHoYo celebrates each of their birthdays on Twitter throughout the year, so it's to be hoped that the characters featured in the anime will be treated with equal depth.

Genshin Impact Honkai Star Rail anime production supported by Shanghai

Access to video games, the Internet and virtual content in general is increasingly controlled by China. Nevertheless, the country is investing heavily in its communications around artificial intelligence, new technologies and its influence in gaming, with tournaments, the production of big-budget titles and financial support for Tencent, among others. This week, with the aim of establishing itself as a hub for audiovisual production and entertainment, Shanghai announced its support for MiHoYo and Ufotable in the production of the Genshin Impact Honkai Star Rail anime.

While the nature of this support is unknown (financial or material), it is essential if a project is to reach fruition, on the same principle as licences granted for video game releases. In other words, there's a very good chance that the Genshin Impact Honkai Star Rail anime will see the light of day.

Ufotable, the studio in charge of the project's animation

Despite being announced in 2022, the project had not been talked about again until now. And with good reason: Ufotable, the Japanese animation studio working with MiHoYo, is used to working on just one anime at a time. With the recent end of production on Demon Slayer, we can assume that Ufotable has been able to get back to work on the Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail anime project. For the moment, no date has been announced, but rest assured. At JeuMobi, we'll keep you posted on developments!
